Why would anyone want to get a blood pregnancy test taken when they can take a urine pregnancy test and do it at home? (...)

Why would anyone want to get a blood pregnancy test taken when they can take a urine pregnancy test and do it at home? Believe it or not there are times when a woman would rather forego the urine pregnancy test altogether and take a blood pregnancy test or at least take it in conjunction with a urine pregnancy test.

Pregnancy Hormone hCG

The urine pregnancy test, whether from a doctor’s office or the home pregnancy test kit works in the same manner. There are reactive agents that can detect the presence of the pregnancy hormone, hCG. The only problem is, different women have different levels of hCG and there’s no way to know for sure what those levels are.

Urine pregnancy tests can only detect the hCG in certain quantities, although there is one, First Response that can detect what is almost a minute amount. However, most of the home pregnancy tests or urine pregnancy tests can only detect the hCG in more liberal amounts.

Blood Test

A blood pregnancy test, on the other hand, is different. There are two types of blood pregnancy tests, quantitative and qualitative. A qualitative blood pregnancy test will simply come back with a positive or negative result as it has detected or not detected the pregnancy hormone hCG. A quantitative blood pregnancy test will measure how much hCG is present. This is useful information as this may be the first clue that there is a multiple pregnancy.

One drawback to the urine pregnancy test that may give an especially early positive result is that 30-50 percent of all embryos that attach themselves to the uterine wall don’t make it. In the past, when we couldn’t know a positive result as early as we can now, we would have been none the wiser as the elimination of the embryo happens during a normal period. No one knows why this happens but not all fertilized eggs can be carried to term.

This isn’t the same as a miscarriage though as it happens just within days of the embryo attaching itself to the uterine wall. Now that we can detect hCG so early, we may get a positive result and then the embryo detach leading to frustration and grief.

See Your Doctor

Regardless of your result after taking a urine pregnancy test, you may want to consider repeating the test a few days later. If the result was negative, there may have been an undetectable level of hCG present and if the result was positive, you’ll want to confirm that also. If you think you are pregnant do see your doctor as soon as possible.

While it has been said that twins are twice the blessing and twice the fun, they can also mean twice the anxiety and concern during a twin pregnancy. (...)

While it has been said that twins are twice the blessing and twice the fun, they can also mean twice the anxiety and concern during a twin pregnancy. When you are carrying twins, there is a higher risk of many different types of complications that require high quality prenatal care to monitor you and your babies for the proper growth and development. The good news is that there are a number of things that you can do to prepare for a happy and healthy nine months of your twin pregnancy.

Gaining Weight

A general rule of thumb is that most women who are pregnant with a single baby will usually gain anywhere from 25 to 35 pounds during that nine month term. For a twin pregnancy, the weight gain increases to 35 to 45 pounds. While you can expect to gain more weight during a twin pregnancy, this does not give you free license to eat whatever and whenever you like. To ensure a healthy twin pregnancy, you should go for the healthiest calories possible that will feed you and your babies and contribute to the highest quality of growth and development. This will mean a diet that is rich in all of the basic food groups, with limits on sugar and fat intake.

Possible Complications

There are many potential complications that can occur during a twin pregnancy, but having the best prenatal care possible right from the beginning will go far in ensuring that your nine months are as smooth and problem free as possible. Your twin pregnancy will probably be treated as a high risk situation, meaning that you will undoubtedly see your doctor more often, and you may require more tests and evaluations of your health and your babies’ health than you would if you were only carrying one. Keep in mind that these frequent checks will help your doctor to monitor your twin pregnancy most effectively, by detecting possible problems early enough to be able to treat them.

Early Delivery

If you are carrying twins, you can pretty much count on the fact that your twin pregnancy will not make it for the full forty weeks of a normal pregnancy term. It is best to be prepared for the inevitability of an early delivery, and to talk to your doctor about the best facility for you to go to. This will probably mean a hospital that is designed for a high risk delivery, so that you can rest assured that they will be well equipped for any possible situation that might arise. It is also good to have a neonatal intensive care unit available at the hospital that you deliver your twin pregnancy, since twins are often on the smaller side at birth and may require special care.

One of the happiest times in a woman's life is when she finds out that she is having a baby, especially if it is for the first time. (...)

One of the happiest times in a woman's life is when she finds out that she is having a baby, especially if it is for the first time. There is always the fear—and the chance—that something can go wrong and a tubal pregnancy is just one of many things that can go wrong with a pregnancy, especially a first time pregnancy.

What is a Tubal Pregnancy?

A tubal pregnancy is at type of miscarriage. When a woman gets pregnant, the egg is supposed to travel up the fallopian tubes to the uterus where it begins to grow into a child; during a tubal pregnancy the baby attempts to develop in a spot other than the uterus, and most times this is the fallopian tubes hence the term 'tubal' pregnancy.

Tubal pregnancies are dangerous, and can cause severe damage to the reproductive organs, making it rather difficult to get pregnant again in the future. It causes the risk of internal bleeding and other complications that are even life threatening at times, which is why it is important that women who are suffering from a tubal pregnancy seek immediate treatment.

Tubal Pregnancy Warning Signs

Tubal pregnancy is a rather dangerous medical condition if left untreated, but luckily there are some warning signs that pregnant women can look out for to ensure that they do not have to deal with the complications of an untreated tubal pregnancy. The main warning signs for tubal pregnancies are:

*Vaginal bleeding or a discharge with blood in it is not normal. Some spotting is normal but excessive bleeding similar to a period is not always normal.

*Severe pelvic pain, especially at the first signs of pregnancy. Especially this early on, pregnancy should not be painful.

*Severe nausea and fatigue

As you can see, the signs of a tubal pregnancy are very much like the signs of a regular pregnancy so it is important that you get properly diagnosed in order to reduce the amount of damage that you do to your reproductive organs, making it possible for you to have a healthy pregnancy in the future.

This is Not the End

Tubal pregnancies can be truly heartbreaking, but there is life after a mishap like this. If properly treated and caught in time, it is possible to have a healthy pregnancy in the future. Be aware of what the warning signs are and make sure you see a doctor as soon and as often as you possibly can.

Statistics can be difficult to compile and it some instances they are conflicting and confusing. (...)

Statistics can be difficult to compile and it some instances they are conflicting and confusing. Teenage pregnancy statistics are somewhat difficult to examine because the sheer volume of information becomes difficult to compile and navigate through. In order to truly understand trends in teenage pregnancy rates, one must look at the data in its complete totality. In other words, in order to arrive at accurate assessments of teenage pregnancy statistics in the United States one must examine the statistics on a federal, local and state level as well as proper demographic information (specific ages of the mothers, financial status, education level, etc) must all be examined in order to truly get a clear picture of what type of information or statistical data is accurate.

Contrary to popular belief, according to most reviews of teenage pregnancy statistics, the number of teenagers who become pregnant has decreased dramatically in the past two decades. While this would appear, on the surface, that sexual activity among teenagers has decreased this is a completely inaccurate assessment. In fact, the sexual activity among teenagers has increased dramatically since the 1960’s. This, of course, begs the question as to why teenage pregnancy statistics reflect a decrease in pregnancy as opposed to an increase.

Factors That Have Reduced Teenage Pregnancy

There are a number of factors that have reduced the statistical rates of teenage pregnancy. Of all the factors, the introduction and availability of contraceptives have dramatically impacted the pregnancy rates among teenagers. Additionally, the legalization of abortion has somewhat skewed the statistics since abortion is not a preventive pregnancy procedure, but rather it is a termination procedure. The presence and availability of contraceptive devices alone is not enough to reduce teenage pregnancies, as there must be an understanding that contraceptives are absolutely imperative as a way of reducing pregnancies. Thanks in large part to the multitude of information channels that exist in the modern world; the message for the need to use contraceptives is delivered easily.

Another area that has helped reduce teenage pregnancy and has impacted teenage pregnancy statistics has been the advent of abstinence education programs. Brought forth by church groups and faith based organizations, abstinence programs have provided a reduction of sexual activity in some segments of the teenage population.

Teenage pregnancy will always remain a serious problem and it will always be part of the landscape of the world. The numbers and instances of it, however, will continue to decrease provided proper education of contraception and abstinence is continued.

Teenage pregnancy is one of the most challenging problems that parents have to deal with when it comes to their children. (...)

Teenage pregnancy is one of the most challenging problems that parents have to deal with when it comes to their children. If you are one of those parents who comes home one day only to find out that your sixteen-year-old daughter is carrying a baby, do not fly off the handle right away. Yes, teenage pregnancy can be very disquieting to parents but there are better ways to handle these things than loosing your cool and screaming at your daughter. Note that teenage pregnancy is just as stressful to your daughter as it is to you so be understanding with her. Besides, if you start screaming at her, you will only alienate her further and it will be difficult to communicate with her later on.

Accepting The News

Receiving the news about your teenage daughter’s condition is crucial when it comes to dealing with teenage pregnancy. If you are close to your daughter and she tells you personally that she is pregnant, hold your temper. Count up to 20 before you speak. When you start talking, do not raise your voice or get hysterical. Yes, it will be very difficult to remain calm at this point but it is very important that you do so. To help you get the details without breaking down, ask you daughter to do the talking first. Let her tell you what she wants to say and please let her finish. Do not interrupt unless you absolutely have to. There is really no need for you to lecture your daughter about responsibility and morality at the moment so resist the urge to deliver a sermon.

Making Decisions

Once you have all the facts, ask your daughter what she intends to do. Do not impose your ideas on your daughter at this point. According to experts who have been studying cases of teenage pregnancy, asking your daughter what she intends to do will help her realize the magnitude of her problem and the magnitude of her decisions. If your daughter is too distraught to think about what she should do with the baby, give her time to think things over. She needs to have some time on her own to find solutions to her problem. You may present some options to her but do not impose your ideas at the moment because this could alienate her from you. If the father of your teenage daughter’s baby is willing to take responsibility for the baby, talk to the father of the baby and his parents together with your daughter.

There are three stages of pregnancy called trimesters, which last about thirteen weeks each. Each trimester has its own uniqueness, because you experience different symptoms and your baby also goes through different growing cycles in each one.

What To Expect

Here is a guide on what to expect during the different stages of pregnancy. The first trimester is joyous, but can also be mixed with different emotions because of some of the dreaded early symptoms of pregnancy, like morning sickness. The first trimester is an important time, since this is the period where your baby will begin developing vital organs. It is during this time that you should see a doctor right away to ensure you are doing everything you can to help the baby develop healthy. If the baby were to develop complications, it would likely happen during this trimester, but complications can also happen in other trimesters. You may have to change your sleeping, eating, and caffeine or alcohol habits since you body is changing and a baby is developing in your uterus.

The second trimester is next in line in the stages of pregnancy. This is usually a happier time and a well deserved reached milestone. During this time, you have begun to look pregnant, have gotten over your morning sickness, and can feel the baby move. The baby continues to grow during this time and develops his or her own sleeping habits, plus their bones begin to harden. You may experience symptoms, like backache or headaches, but this is normal. You should continue to get plenty of rest, fluids, and continue to eat healthy. If you haven’t started an exercise program, you can begin that now.

The last of the stages of pregnancy is the third trimester. During this time you may feel anxious and have mixed feeling about the baby coming. You will wonder if your ready to be a parent, what will the baby will look like, are you ready to have the baby, and in the end your main concern is just that you have a healthy baby. Your body will be physically ready to have the baby. You will more than likely experience fatigue, increased urination, and discomfort. You may also feel Braxton hick’s contractions as you come closer to the delivery date.

The three stages of pregnancy have their own milestones. You may experience all or none of the feelings or symptoms. All pregnancies are different and this is just a guide.

To say that smoking during pregnancy is a dangerous proposition would be an understatement to say the least. (...)

To say that smoking during pregnancy is a dangerous proposition would be an understatement to say the least. In reality, the damage that can occur when the mother is smoking while there is a child in the womb is significant. The variety of problems that a child can face if the mother smokes during pregnancy is voluminous and can even lead to stillborn births. This, of course, begs the question if smoking during pregnancy causes so many problems, why do so many women continue to do so? The answer to this question is that many women today don’t smoke during pregnancy, but many still do. Mercifully, the numbers of people who have quit smoking have drastically increased over the last two decades. Part of the reason women smoked during pregnancy in pervious generations was due to smoking among the population as a whole was heavily addicted to nicotine. In 1964, it is estimated nearly one half the population was smoking.

Smoking During Pregnancy And Its Historical Context

What needs to be understood here is that one cannot look at smoking during pregnancy without looking at smoking through the lens of cigarettes throughout history. At one time, smoking was considered harmless. During World War I, cigarettes were issued to soldiers in the field as a way of reducing anxiety. In the 1940’s, baseball professionals would endorse cigarette products. It would not be until the late 1960’s that the dangers of cigarettes became known, but it would not be for another 30 or so years before the public would eventual realize the seriousness of the negative effects of cigarettes.

Ultimately, the reason that women smoked during pregnancy was due to the fact they were not informed as to the severe hazards smoking would cause a fetus. After all, if a product were labeled a healthy weight loss product (and this is how some brands marketed their cigarettes in the 1950’s) then why would there be a reason to stop? Additionally, by the time the dangers of cigarettes were finally exposed, cigarettes became so ingrained in the culture that people still did not realize the dangers. In a way, the eradication of cigarettes is a slow road mainly because of the long historical presence of cigarettes in the culture combined with the fact that they are a highly addictive product. When a product is highly addictive, it becomes next to impossible to stop using. As such, while the numbers are small, there will still be those who smoke and continue smoking during pregnancy.

Most women are very familiar with the early signs of pregnancy. A missed period is one of the most common signs of pregnancy and should be taken seriously by any women. If you are one of those sexually active women who have missed their regular menstrual periods for more than two weeks, you should consider getting a pregnancy test. Getting a pregnancy test to confirm the early signs of pregnancy is very important. According to experts, confirming the early signs of pregnancy through a test can help prevent accidents that could result to a miscarriage.

Pregnancy testing is very easy. You don’t really have to go to a clinic or see a doctor to confirm whether you are pregnant or not. There are many effective pregnancy test kits being sold in the market today so you can just buy one and do the test yourself. You may do your testing early in the morning when you wake up. Testing in the morning after a good nights rest is highly recommended by doctors.

Tenderness In The Breast Area

Tenderness and swelling in the breast area is one of the early signs of pregnancy. The woman’s body starts to change to accommodate the fetus inside the womb and the glands of the woman also undergo changes. In most cases, the woman’s breast starts to enlarge during the first trimester of the pregnancy and will continue to do so until such time when she gives birth. The enlargement of the woman’s breast during the first and second trimester of pregnancy can be quite painful especially for those women who are pregnant for the first time. If your breasts start to feel heavy and painful, do not be alarmed. To easy your discomforts, wear comfortable clothes and a bra that provides maximum support to your breast. Bouncy movement can be quite painful at this time.

Vertigo And Dizziness

Some pregnant women experience dizziness and vertigo. According to experts, dizziness and vertigo are some of the early signs of pregnancy so you should not be overly alarmed. If you suddenly feel short of breath and the room starts swimming, take a deep breath and sit down. Drink some water and stay calm. In case you are worried that your vertigo or dizziness is more than just an early sign of pregnancy, go see a doctor immediately. If you have that feeling that you might be pregnant, do not take any medicine before you go see a doctor.

In order to stay as healthy as possible and to have the healthiest baby they could possibly have, it is important for pregnant women to work hard to stay in good shape and eat the best foods they can possibly put into their bodies. (...)

In order to stay as healthy as possible and to have the healthiest baby they could possibly have, it is important for pregnant women to work hard to stay in good shape and eat the best foods they can possibly put into their bodies. You should always talk to your doctor about what is okay and what is not okay for you to do while you are pregnant, but pregnancy yoga is approved and even recommended by many doctors and pregnant women like due to the low impact low stress exercises for pregnant women.

Why is Pregnancy Yoga So Hot?

One of the reasons why pregnancy yoga is so popular among women these days is because natural births seem to be the increasing trend, at least for now, and pregnancy yoga is said to have positive effects on the muscles in the abdomen and rest of the body for women who have exercised in the way that pregnancy yoga exercises the baby. There is relatively no bustling or bouncing about and all of the pregnancy yoga exercises are low impact, helping to reduce the risk of stress on the fetus while still gently working out the body and allowing it to retain only the necessary amount of weight while pregnant. While it is necessary to gain some healthy weight while pregnant, you can only attribute so much of your weight to the baby, the uterus, the extra fluids, and the extra fat and milk in your breasts.

Where to Sign Up For Pregnancy Yoga

You can find pregnancy yoga just about anywhere where you might find regular yoga classes in your community. If your city has a yoga house or a similar establishment, you might inquire there about Pregnancy Yoga classes as long as you are willing to pay some sizable amount of money for it. Yoga classes and yoga instructors are not cheap, and pregnancy yoga is not an inexpensive pastime to take up unless you plan on doing it at home, in which case you have to know what you are doing and still practice extreme caution.

Pregnancy yoga is a great way to stay in shape and maintain a healthy, manageable weight while bearing child. Just because you are with child doesn't mean you have to be fat and sedentary; make positive moves toward a happy and healthy future for not only your child, but yourself and your family as well.

Pregnancy yoga is the way to go; just get the okay from your doctor and go check out a trial class at your local community center or yoga house today.

Finding out that you are pregnant can be one of the happiest, most joyous times in a woman's life. (...)

Finding out that you are pregnant can be one of the happiest, most joyous times in a woman's life. During pregnancy so many things change, both in the heart and mind of a woman and there re other changes to account for as well, changes in the body that are not always so welcome.

That is just the way it is, though. With pregnancy comes weight gain and even though it means that there is a happy, healthy baby on the way pregnancy weight gain is never welcome, not to mention the fact that it comes with hormonal changes and mood swings which makes even the mere idea of pregnancy weight gain enough to set a woman off.

How Much Weight Gain is Okay?

What is important is knowing what type and how much pregnancy weight gain is appropriate, and what type of pregnancy weight gain is not okay. While it is important to gain a certain amount of weight during pregnancy there is a limit, and not enough weight gain is equally detrimental to your pregnancy as too much weight gain if not more so.

What Accounts for Pregnancy Weight Gain?

When you are pregnant, the overall amount of weight that you gain is inclusive of a whole bunch of different elements of the body. The baby itself is included in this weight sum, as well as the placenta, blood, the extra weight of the uterus and the amniotic fluids and other fluids in the body, and then weight gain in the breast area. Overall, pregnancy weight gain should amount to no more than 25 to 30 pounds at the most; those who gain more cannot attribute that extra weight to the fact that they are going to have a baby.

Part of managing your weight and making sure that your pregnancy weight gain is appropriate ca be done by managing your diet appropriately. Yes, it is true that you are eating for two but that does not mean that you have to double your diet, although you might sometimes feel like you need to. Exercise with caution (and permission from a doctor) to keep in shape as well, as that is one way to help control and manage your pregnancy weight gain as much as possible.

Remember that it is important to experience weight gain during pregnancy, but that is not an excuse to let your health go. Your health and weight are just as important during your pregnancy as they are during any other time in your life if not more so, so take the necessary steps to make sure that you are as healthy as possible.
